Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in finance,
economics, accounting, business administration, or a related quantitative discipline. At least
10 years of experience in Commercial Banking, Credit Risk Assessment, Loan Origination,
Special Assets Management, Loan Portfolio Restructuring, Recoveries, analyzing complex
financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, tax returns) to evaluate borrower
creditworthiness and overall portfolio health. The specialist should demonstrate deep
understanding of credit risk, including the ability to identify potential defaults, set loan limits,
and implement risk-sharing techniques (collateral, covenants, insurance). Experience in
portfolio modelling (stress-testing using quantitative techniques, and specialized Loan
Management Software) is critical. A deep understanding of the Botswana regulatory
compliance (financial laws, commercial banking and related regulations) is desirable. More
generally, the specialist should demonstrate: (i) Experience in Commercial Banking, Credit
Risk Management, Special Assets Management and workout strategies, including loan
portfolio management, restructuring, write-offs, and collections frameworks. Such
competence will be catalytic for collaboration with CEDA and Youth Development Fund
related challenges with NPL; (ii) Familiarity with DFI business models, including cost-ofcapital management, blended finance structures, and concessional lending principles; and (iii)
Experience with loan loss provisioning frameworks aligned with IFRS 9 or equivalent
international standards
